I chose to respond to @xuchang‘s post as we decided to focus on different types of instruction with opposite philosophical bases. While @xuchang focus on a form of instruction that is based on behaviouralism, I focused on one that was based on constructivism. @xuchang did a wonderful job not only simplifying direct instruction but additionally applying this approach to any learning resource. The did a great job listing processes – establishing specific learning goals, offering examples and means to practice, providing immediate feedback, repetition, and evaluating assessment. While I do not gravitate towards all behaviouralist approaches to learning, I feel that it is incredibly important to keep an open mind to a variety of practices.
